odson Energy is proud to announce the approval of its 39 megawatt New Jay Solar project. The Jay County Plan Commission unanimously approved the projectâs development plan on May 9th for the 311 acre solar farm located in Richland Township. The New Jay project marks a significant milestone as Hodson Energyâs second solar project to be approved so far this year. Backed by Great Bay Renewables, Hodson Energyâs commitment to renewable energy and community development remains steadfast and growing.Â
New Jay Solar will bring a substantial investment of $67.5 million to Jay County to produce clean energy that will power thousands of homes for decades to come. The economic impact includes $2.516 million in development funds over four years starting in 2028, bringing the total local tax revenue to a sizable $13.3 million over the lifetime of the project. As always, Hodson has urged leaders to deploy these tax dollars locally to the benefit of citizens nearest the projectâs footprint.
The $40 million royalty investment into Hodson will be invested in tranches over approximately the next three years as Hodson achieves certain project advancement milestones, with an initial investment upon closing of $14 million. Approximately $9.8 million of the initial investment will be used to retire an existing development loan facility and acquire new projects, resulting in a 1.8 GWac total portfolio post-Great Bay investment.
â This solar project will create environmental and economic benefits while simultaneously helping Indiana meet its growing demand for clean energy.â
–Â Sukhin Bhandari, COO Hodson Energy
The project will feature a 25-foot buffer zone planted with a pollinator-friendly seed mix and a dense screen of native evergreens, showcasing our dedication to environmental stewardship. Local farmers’ sheep will graze the area to provide vegetative maintenance under the panels.
â We are proud to see this piece of property continue to produce for the wider community. With the potential for a solar grazing program, this solar farm is expected to produce an agricultural product as well as energy for the grid. The dual use of this land is a win for Jay County’s agricultural economy, and a win for Hodson Energy .â
–Â RS Gill, CEO Hodson Energy
Hodson Energy successfully addressed community concerns during each step of the development process. This transformative project will enhance Jay County’s energy landscape and contribute to sustainable development. The Hodson team looks forward to the positive impact this solar farm will have on the community and our shared future.
â New Jay is a significant investment in the community. In addition to the environmental benefits that solar brings, the project will create local job opportunities during the construction and ongoing maintenance phases â
